Toastmasters Meeting Structure

Visitors are welcome!

Rotarians are welcome to practice their learning modules in Toastmaster meetings.

Our club meetings are designed to empower people to become the effective communicators, public speakers, and leaders they aspire to be.

We offer a supportive, low-stress, and safe learning environment that empowers members to grow at their own pace.

We promote the Pathways education program. The modules within this program are similar to the learning modules provided for Rotarians located on the member dashboard in DACDB.

Our club meetings generally last for 1 hour with the exception of a few clubs who meet for 1 hour fifteen minutes.

Each meeting is divided into three parts:

  1. Prepared SpeechesProjects that members have prepared and practiced in advance before the meeting.  Each speaker is supported by an evaluator.
  2. Impromptu Speaking Session Extemporaneous speaking on virtually any topic off the cuff, this is called TABLE TOPICS.
  3. Evaluation Session: Each area of the meeting, including prepared speeches, is provided verbal feedback. "Feedback is the breakfast of champions".  The evaluator provides an honest reaction in a constructive manner to the speaker's efforts, using the evaluation guides provided.  The evaluator is simply giving their own reaction to the person's speaking or leadership efforts.  An evaluation is an opinion and nothing more.

Note:   Clubs that operate differently
  1. The Friends of Greenwood Toastmasters includes an "Elevator Pitch" session in their meetings.
  2. The Varsity Advanced Toastmasters Club utilizes a "round robin" evaluation session where each member present in the meeting provides a brief assessment of the speech/presentation.

We provide a written agenda for each meeting.

Toastmasters meetings are not led by an instructor or facilitator.  The meetings are led by an assigned "Toastmaster of the Day".  The role of Toastmasters of the Day rotates among the membership and each member has an opportunity to develop their chairmanship skills.
